5 November 2026 ยท 4 min readSame day delivery in Nairobi works only when three things line up. The parcel must be small enough to carry. The booking must be early enough to move, and the brief clear enough for a rider to follow. If you searched for same day delivery in Nairobi this morning, you already know the deadline. So this guide covers what can arrive today, what cannot, and the details that decide it.
What can arrive today with same day delivery
First, small sealed parcels move fastest. Phones, documents, clothes, laptop accessories, spare parts and cake all fit the profile. A Nairobi courier advertising same day service takes up to 30 kg. Book before 11 am, and the price starts from about KES 350.
Next, Bolt Send is the other option. It relaunched in September 2025 and passed one million deliveries by October 2026, and it runs mostly in Nairobi. The parcel must fit in the boot or on the passenger seat. Bolt Kenya support lists 65 by 55 by 40 cm and 20 kg, while Bolt's global page says 15 kg. So plan for 15 kg. Bolt Send is not door to door, because you and your recipient both meet the driver.
What will not arrive today: furniture, fridges, and anything booked after the cutoff. Prices change often, so ask for a quote before you commit. Our guide on delivery time in Kenya shows how the tiers compare.
Same day delivery cutoffs
A courier booked before 11 am can usually deliver the same day inside Nairobi. Book at 2 pm and the same parcel quietly becomes a tomorrow job. That happens whether or not the person on the phone says so.
Bolt Send has no published price. The app quotes based on distance and nearby drivers. So an 8 am request and a 6 pm request are different products.
Meanwhile, bus parcels are a third route. Easy Coach advertises about KES 300 for 0 to 7 kg from Nairobi to Nakuru. The service runs same day or within 24 hours, counter to counter. It is cheap, but it depends on the bus departure and collection. A Nairobi to Nakuru courier is advertised next morning from about KES 650.
A boda errand is not a courier
A boda rider is one person doing you a favour for a fee. There is no scanning, no declared contents, no booking reference and no record. You negotiate the price, hand over the parcel, and hope the rider waits and answers the phone at the gate.
However, a courier is a company. You get a reference, a weight limit, a declared value and someone to call. Since 20 September 2026, Communications Authority conditions apply to digital couriers such as Bolt, Uber, Glovo and Little. Those operators must verify sender and recipient identity, and senders must declare contents. The courier must screen parcels without opening them and keep records that KRA and police can access. Uber applied for a national courier permit in 2026. So do not treat Uber Connect or Uber Package as a live parcel service. Sendy closed in August 2023, so it is not an option either.
Meanwhile, agent networks sit in between. Pickup Mtaani has 150 or more points. Rates have been seen around KES 70 to 200 agent to agent. The CBD rate is about KES 120, all indicative. The recipient still travels to collect.
Who carries a same day delivery risk
The Bolt terms are clear. Bolt is not responsible for loss, theft, damage or misuse of the parcel. The rider is a stranger holding your item, and the app only matches you. That is fine for a cheap dress. It is not fine for an expensive phone unless you accept the risk.
The identity and record keeping rules help you trace a parcel. They do not pay you back. So if the item matters, declare the value and photograph it sealed and labelled. Use a service with a reference number, and tell the recipient what to expect.
How to brief the rider
Overall, parcels are usually refused at the door for a missing detail. Send the rider all of this in one message:
- Pickup: building name, street, floor, shop number, landmark, and a phone number that answers.
- Drop: the same detail, plus the recipient's name and a phone number that answers.
- Parcel: size, weight, whether it is sealed or fragile, and what is inside. Contents must be declared now.
- Payment: who pays the delivery fee, the exact amount, and no extra charges without a call to you.
- Timing: tell the recipient the rider is coming, so nobody is away from the gate.
Then ask for the rider's name, phone and plate, and send them to the recipient. A rider will not wait fifteen minutes. A recipient who was not warned will refuse a parcel they did not order.
If you are still hunting for the item itself, post what you need on the Looking For feed. Then let sellers come to you. Our guide on the cheapest courier in Kenya shows when a slower route is worth the saving. The Communications Authority lists the licence conditions behind any courier you pick.

FAQ
Can a parcel cross Nairobi in two hours?
Sometimes. A boda or Bolt Send is your best chance if a driver is close. A courier booked before 11 am is more reliable but rarely two hours.
Is Bolt Send cheaper than a courier?
Not always. There is no published price, so the app decides. Compare the quote with a courier quote for the same weight and route before you book.
What if my parcel is over 15 kg?
Use a courier. Standard Nairobi couriers take up to 30 kg, and heavier items need a van or a bus counter.
